BANANA POWER in Copenhagen, Denmark, August 2006.
Yellow on the outside – white on the inside.

In this project UFOlab plays with the role of the banana fruit.
Its historical references in western history are many; from Josephine
Bakers exotic banana-dance in the Parisian saloons, Andy Warhol's
Velvet underground record-cover, to unfair trade, and sexual
connotation. Also the banana has an even racist connotation in words like "banana-eater", "banana-republic", etc., which has become
everyday lines in most western countries.
The banana fruit is an imported fruit, it can not grow in
Europe and it has symbolized something exotic and something far away.
Today, however, the banana and the way we get food from all the corners of the
world is something that most people take for granted. The banana has
become as ordinary as the apple or the pear in our stores and our
mind of what is a typical Scandinavian fruit.

With this background the BANANA POWER PROJECT takes its start.
The Banana Theory in the international adoption world is based on the
Post-colonial issue of international adoption and internal racism.
As an Asian adoptee growing up in a white family the
child is raised as a white person but is in fact Asian - like a banana:
yellow on the outside and white on the inside, meaning that he or she
look as an Asian but feels white inside.
